AP Selection Algorithm for Real-Time Communications through Mixed WLAN Environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent rapid development of high-speed wireless access technologies has created mixed WLAN (Wireless LAN) environments where QoS capable APs coexist with legacy APs. To provide QoS guarantee in this mixed WLAN environment, this paper proposes a new AP selection algorithm. The proposed algorithm assigns an STA (Station) to an AP in the overall WLAN service area. Simulation results show improvement in the VoIP performance in terms of an eMOS (estimated Mean Opinion Score) value and the FTP throughput compared to conventional algorithms. key words: AP selection, IEEE802.11e, load balancing, eMOS, QoS

DualMAC: A soft handoff mechanism for real-time communications in secured WLANs
WLAN has been widely deployed over public and private areas in recent years and has become one of the most popular access technologies for mobile Internet services. Handoffs between WLAN access points (APs) that introduce packet loss and delay during a network session is one of the critical issues for real-time communication services. Unfortunately, most of the previous studies in reducing hand...
متن کاملRelay Node Selection Algorithm for Cooperative Communications in Wireless Networks
IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards support multiple transmission rates. Even though the use of multiple transmission rates increase the WLAN capacity, this feature leads to the performance anomaly problem. Cooperative communication was introduced to relieve the performance anomaly problem. Data packets are delivered to the destination much faster through a relay node with high rate than through direct ...
متن کاملMulti-Criteria Call Admission Control in IEEE 802.11 WLAN for Distributed Access Point Selection
Wireless local area networks (WLANs) are the predominant option for broadband wireless access network, and multiple access points (APs) will be much more available for wireless stations (WSTAs). Call admission control (CAC) on AP selection problem over 802.11 WLAN becomes a critical issue. In the existing architecture, Strongest-Signal-First (SSF) is the default AP selection mechanism in 802.11...
متن کاملAccess Point Selection Game with Mobile Users Using Correlated Equilibrium
One of the most important issues in wireless local area network (WLAN) systems with multiple access points (APs) is the AP selection problem. Game theory is a mathematical tool used to analyze the interactions in multiplayer systems and has been applied to various problems in wireless networks. Correlated equilibrium (CE) is one of the powerful game theory solution concepts, which is more gener...
متن کاملAn Improved Indoor Positioning Method Based on Affinity Propagation Clustering
The fingerprint-based wireless local area network (WLAN) positioning has gained significant interest in recent years. Indoor localization methods based on WLAN and RSS with advantage of low cost are most widely used. In this paper, we propose an improved indoor positioning method based on Affinity Propagation (AP) algorithm to obtain better accuracy: k coordinate points measured through KNN alg...
